Walter Jacobson: The first Illinois lawsuit has been filed against the makers of Fen-phen. A Chicago law firm filed a class action suit today. It comes after the Food and Drug Administration last week urged the recall of Fen-phen because of studies that link it to heart problems.
Kenneth B. Moll: The manufacturers knew about these problems when they tested it, experimented with it in Europe, and some European countries actually banned the use of Fen-phen because of the adverse reactions.
W. Jacobson: He says thousands of Americans may have been injured by Fen-phen and not even realize it. No reaction yet to the lawsuit from the manufacturers.
